I turned thirty this year and man, did it hit me like a wrecking ball- no Miley. Not only have I been grieving and reflecting on what I thought life would look like, but I’ve also had this internal conflict between making lemonade and starting over, completely. Ultimately I chose starting over but, with the caveat that I’d be restarting with a future-focused mindset and not what my past self would’ve hoped for. So, before you decide to restart and uproot your entire life, here are a few things to consider.
Is it necessary?
Before deciding to restart my life, I had to understand who/what I was doing it for. Is it for self-development or public perception? Will starting over feel good to you or does it look good to those around you? Don’t be honest with me, get real with yourself. If I can be honest, I felt like I had come way too far to start over my ego kept me stagnant. I stayed in sh*t for so long, God had to send me a catalyst to make sure I move how I was called to (one day we’ll get into those details – yikes). The good news is, It doesn’t have to be that way if you feel the shift, ride the wave, jump in.
Ask the real questions.
When you think about where your life is now, what tools would you need to start fresh? What do you know now, that you want to carry over into your future self? What type of habits does your she have? what does she do in her spare time? What does her support system look like? Is she working or self-employed? Grab your journal and get intentional, sis. Once you create a list of your ideal characteristics and quality of life, compare it to where you are currently. How does her life differ from yours, how are you similar? That’s where you’ll find your strategy.
Bet on yourself,
My mama taught me young to weigh the pros and cons of any decision. The problem is we always ask, what’s the worst that could happen? Maybe in this season, of betting on yourself, the real question is “What’s the best that could happen”? It could all work out. You could make yourself proud. You could finally have the life of your dreams. Starting over could be the best decision you’ve ever made. You won’t know unless you try.
Let’s try, together. If you liked this post, don’t forget to share it with your friends and leave a comment below. See you next week? 🙂
